Located on the harbor in South Freeport, Maine, less than 30 minutes from the Portland airport, you’ll find the quintessential “Downeast” Maine experience typically only found much further north and the Harraseeket Boathouse & Cottages. Actually situated over the picturesque Harraseeket River which flows into Casco Bay, the Harraseeket Boathouse, was originally constructed in 1813 and is the oldest documented structure in South Freeport today. Its colorful history includes being used by “rum runners” during prohibition to smuggle liquor from arriving boats to a nearby resort. It was lovingly rebuilt in 2005 as a completely unique, private luxury residence offering all of today’s modern amenities including media room, six wide screen televisions, and wireless internet. Today, the exposed beams and historic “ships knees” used in the original construction can still be seen, the hoists used to lift liquor from waiting boats are still in place, and the smuggler’s trap door in the floor has been replaced by a glass panel with dramatic views directly into the sea.

In addition to unparalleled views from every window, the home features four bedrooms, two and a half baths, and sleeps up to ten guests in complete luxury. Two adjacent lovely cottages “Heron” and “Osprey” have been newly appointed and together accommodate up to an additional 10 guests. Combined, Harraseeket Boathouse & Cottages accommodates up to twenty guests.

Walk to the local lobster pound for a bite, swim or kayak from your own private dock, or just relax and watch the ever changing panorama of Freeport Harbor with its many quaint boats as you let your cares slip away and recall our state’s saying… “Maine… The way life should be”.
